The GMO Trilogy Press Release
DVDs by Best-Selling Author Expose Genetic Engineering Dangers
Revelations may impact consumer buying
A new DVD and CD set produced by bestselling author Jeffrey Smith, which shows that genetically modified organisms (GMOs) put our health and environment at risk, may impact consumer perceptions and buying habits. That is the expectation of nonprofit groups, prominent natural food manufacturers and health food stores nationwide, who are participating in the launch of The GMO Trilogy in April. Its release was in conjunction with Earth Day, (April 22) and International GMOpposition Day (April 8)—a coordinated 30-nation campaign to raise awareness about genetically modified (GM) food. US organizations will ask hundreds of thousands of their members to buy the Trilogy to show at house parties and several manufacturers have sponsored the 3-disc set to keep it affordable.
The first DVD is a stunning, award-winning European documentary, Unnatural Selection, which features Vandana Shiva, Andrew Kimbrell, Percy Schmeiser and others. It reveals several of the harsh consequences of genetic engineering on three continents, including uncontrollable, self-replicating GM canola contamination in Canada, a failed GM cotton crop and farmer suicides in India, GM salmon that might wipe out natural fish populations and deformed GM livestock created by the US government.
The second DVD is the critically acclaimed Hidden Dangers in Kids’ Meals. Jeffrey Smith and a host of scientists explain that:
- The overwhelming consensus by FDA scientists was that GM foods are inherently hazardous and may contain poisons or allergens. They urged their superiors to require long-term safety studies, but were ignored by the political appointees, including biotech giant Monsanto’s former attorney who was placed in charge of FDA policy.
- GM-fed animals had damaged immune systems, stunted growth, organ lesions, sterility, high death rates and increased mortality among offspring. Serious human problems have been reported as well.
- Children are most at risk from the potential dangers, but there are steps parents and schools can take to protect them.
John Robbins, bestselling author of Diet for a New America, says “Hidden Dangers pierces the myth that our government is protecting our food supply.”
The Trilogy also contains the audio CD You’re Eating WHAT?, a compelling talk by Jeffrey Smith about how biotech companies rigged research, hid health dangers and pressured government regulators to approve GM food long before the science was ready. Craig Winters of The Campaign to Label Genetically Engineered Foods calls it, “The most powerful presentation I have ever heard on the issue of genetically engineered foods.”
Jeffrey M. Smith is the author of the world’s bestselling book on GM foods, Seeds of Deception: Exposing Industry and Government Lies about the Safety of the Genetically Engineered Foods You’re Eating. He is the director of the Institute for Responsible Technology and a leading spokesperson on the risks of GMOs. He is currently collaborating with an international team of scientists to document all known health effects of GM foods, for his forthcoming book Genetic Roulette.
The GMO Trilogy is sponsored by Eden Foods, Nature’s Path, Organic Valley, Frey Vineyards, Nutiva, NOW Foods, French Meadow Bakery, Organic Food Bar, Organic Consumers Association, The Institute for Responsible Technology and others.
